| Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens located in Stuart,
Florida, in partnership with the University of Florida/IFAS-Martin County
Extension Office, planted a "South Ridge Holly Champion
Tree" clone on Saturday, May 20. While attending this
event, the public was invited to stroll through the lushly landscaped areas
at no charge. The mission of the non-profit Champion Tree Project International (www.championtreeproject.org)
is to lead society towards sustainability by preserving, propagating and
planting a living legacy of our Champion Trees-the largest and oldest
individual trees of their species. The South Ridge Holly tree is the first of many Champion Tree
clones to occupy a living library at Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens.
This tree was discovered and cloned by Norman Cook and it was grown and
donated by the St. Petersburg Technical Institute, Florida.
